SHIP CLASS CHARACTERS
Every ship classified to BKI has class character and class notation contained in class certificate. Determination of class character depends on verification of compliance of BKI construction rules which effective upon application date. BKI shall be entitled to add special notation in class certificate. In classification coverage, characteristics of hull, engine and anchor gear are indicated in class character and class notation added to class character.
Determination of class character
Complete examples of determination of class character for hull, engine, anchor gear and cooler installation are as follows :

Class Character
Hull class character is symbolized with the following code :
[Receipt Code] [Hull Requirement] [Anchoring Arrangement]
Receipt Code is divided into :
means the hull is constructed under supervision and according to other classification rules which recognized by BKI |
means the hull is constructed under supervision and according to BKI Construction Rules, made of material already tested according to BKI rules. |
| |
means other than two matters above. |
means vessel constructed with proofed subdivision and damage stability calculation. |
Hull Requirement is divided into :
means the vessel's hull is fully in accordance with BKI Construction Rules requirements or other regulation considered to be equivalent |
means the vessel's hull is not fully in accordance with or no longer fully fulfills BKI Construction Rules requirements, however the class may be maintained for shorter period and/or with shorter survey interval |
Anchoring arrangement is divided into :
means ship whose anchoring arrangement i.e anchor, anchor chain cable and windlass fully comply with requirement of BKI Construction Rules. |
means the ship whose anchoring arrangement do not fully or no longer fully comply with requirement of BKI Construction Regulation, but functional safety and seaworthiness condition are fulfilled for the envisaged service. |
atau |
Anchoring arrangement for fishing vessel complying with BKI Rules |
Special service vessel provided with anchoring equipment according to BKI Rules (example: High Speed Ship) |
means ship without anchor equipment, specially for unmanned barge. |
Class character of machinery is symbolized with the following code :
[Receipt Code] [Machinery Requirements]
Machinery Receipt Code is divided into :
means the machinery is constructed under supervision and according to other classification rules which recognized by BKI |
means the machinery is constructed under supervision and according to BKI Construction Rules, made of material already tested according to BKI rules. |
| |
means other than two matters above. |
Machinery requirements are divided into :
means machinery installation and all installation covered by classification comply with the requirement of BKI Construction Rules or other rules considered to be equivalent. |
means machinery installation and all installation of non self propelled vessel and other floating units comply with the requirement of BKI Construction Rules or other rules considered to be equivalent. |
means machinery installation does not fully comply with or no longer fully comply with requirement of BKI Construction Rules, but functional safety and seaworthiness are fulfilled for the envisaged service. |
means machinery installation for non self propelled vessel or other floating unit do not comply with or no longer fully comply with the requirement of BKI Construction Rules, but functional safety and seaworthiness are fulfilled. |
Refrigerating installation class character is divided into :
| Cargoes Vessel |
means both in respect of hull and machinery, the cargo refrigerating installation fully comply with requirement of BKI Rules. |
means the cargo refrigerating installation does not fully comply with or no longer comply with the requirement of BKI Rules, but functional safety and seaworthiness are fulfilled for envisaged service. |
| Fishing Vessel |
means both in respect of hull and machinery, the cargo refrigerating installation of fishing vessel fully comply with requirement of BKI Rules |
means the cargo refrigerating installation of fishing vessel does not fully comply with or no longer comply with the requirement of BKI Rules, but functional safety and seaworthiness are fulfilled for envisaged service. |
Class Notation
Class Notation constitutes addition to Class Character attached to hull and machinery certificate. Hull's additional notation can be in form of one or more the following notations :
